Must-see Obama campaign video portrays Romney as the Gordon Gekko he is

by

Romney’s would be an historic presidency — for all the wrong reasons

Relevations this past week that Mitt Romney is very likely a tax cheat are making major waves. The Obama campaign is, of course, using this to their best advantage.

Today they released an online video by Obama campaign National Press Secretaey Ben LaBolt that, in plain, easy-to-digest language, eviscerates Romney for his hiding of income in offshore accounts in well-known tax havens like Switzerland, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands.

Watch it:

Mitt Romney could be the first president in history to stash millions offshore.
  • Does the Romney family still own the Bermudan shell corporation? If so, why won’t his campaign admit it?
  • Why did Romney transfer ownership of this secretive corporation to a blind trust in his wife’s name the day before he was sworn in? Was it to avoid disclosure?
  • What taxes would Romney have paid if his money was invested here in America instead of in tax havens like the Caymans?

The Romney campaign argument boils down to this: Romney hasn’t technically broken any laws. But, is not technically breaking the law a high enough standard for someone who is running to be the President of the United States?

It’s one thing to be fabulously wealthy. That’s something many Americans admire and hold in high esteem, actually. It’s not making Romney seem like the down to earth millionaire that George W. Bush was, the guy you’d “want to have a beer with”, but, on it’s own, it’s not a deal breaker for most Republican voters.

But, one thing even Republican voters chafe at is someone avoiding paying their fair share of taxes. Most of us “common folk” see that as downright un-American and something only the stratospherically rich millionaires and billionaires get to do.

Put into that context, along with the fact that Romney got that rich betting against American workers, off-shoring American jobs and killing off American companies while making a massive personal profit, and you start to get the attention of even the most devoted “temporarily embarrassed millionaire”. Suddenly Romney’s wealth seems less like an American success story and a whole hell of a lot more like an American tale of greed and corruption.  Romney starts looking more like the evil super-greedmonger Gordon Gekko from Wall Street than Horatio Alger.

It’s an accurate perception.

Let’s not forget that the GOP used the wealth of John Kerry and his wife against him in 2004 to make him look like an out-of-touch elite. What Romney is doing to avoid paying his fair share of taxes makes John Kerry look downright down-to-earth. It’s GOPocrisy at its finest.

Share this video far and wide. Let the country know what mitt Romney is. He’s not an out-of-touch elite. Mitt Romney is a greedy corporatist with one goal: to make as much personal wealth for himself and his corporate cohort as humanly and corporately possible.

If that’s not why he’s hiding his income overseas and in his wife’s name, then let’s hear why he is doing that and why that is okay for a man who wants to run the most powerful country in the world.

Until he does that, we’re left connecting these dots for ourselves. And the picture that is emerging is not a pretty one.

Unless you like Gekkos.
