Folks are waking up…
For the first time since April, the Obama campaign raised more money than Mitt Romney‘s campaign:
President Obama and Democrats pulled slightly ahead of Mitt Romney and Republicans in monthly fundraising in August for the first time in four months.Obama raised more than $114 million in August, and Romney brought in just over $111 million. The two campaigns announced their fundraising numbers early Monday.
It’s a sharp increase for Obama, who raised $75 million in July. That had been the third straight month he and the Democratic Party trailed Romney and the GOP in monthly fundraising.
I suspect that people are beginning to wake up and realizing we cannot let Mitt Romney purchase this election. It’s probably not going to be possible to compete with the insane levels of money being spent by Romney’s friends in the upper 0.1% and their Super PACs. But they know that they should at least give President Obama some cash to work with to fight back against the endless smear machine and repeated lying and lying and lying by Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan and their surrogates.
Let’s face it, the Romney campaign isn’t going to tell you any specifics about their economic plan because if they did, people would realize that what they want is a wholesale redistribution not of wealth but of tax burden. Despite the fact that this approach has been used for years and has served only to explode our debt without getting the economy moving, this is what they plan to do. They’ll even throw a little deregulation of corporations in there for good measure, just to make things that much easier for their corporate pals.
President Obama put it this way yesterday in Florida:
They had their convention here in Florida and they talked a lot about me. But they didn’t talk a lot about you. They talked about everything they think is wrong with America, but they didn’t really talk about how to make it right. They want your vote, but they didn’t really talk about their plan. That’s because their plan boils down to tax cuts, tax cuts, gut a few regulations, and then some more tax cuts. Tax cuts when times are good. Tax cuts when times are bad. Tax cuts when we’ve got a surplus. Tax cuts when we have a deficit. Tax cuts to help you lose a few pounds. Tax cuts to improve your love life. Whatever is wrong with you, they think tax cuts, especially for folks at the top, will cure all ills.
President Obama and his campaign need to raise enough money to fight back against the lies and to expose the Romney behind the curtain for the charlatan that he is. Want to help? Chip in a few bucks HERE.
Better yet, get out their and start knocking doors and making calls. Because the only thing that matters more than money is the GOTV ground game and we have two months and one day to get this done. Sign up HERE today.
Oh, and one more thing: President Obama is leading in the polls, too. PPP, the most reputable polling firm out there, has him up over Mitt Romney in the battleground state of Ohio, 50-45. He’s even up in North Carolina, Colorado and Florida and WAY up in Michigan. Now we just have to work our asses off to bring this thing home.
