Inflamed duck, indeed
I knew that Republicans had passed a lot of bills through the Michigan legislature during the lame inflamed duck session but I had absolutely no idea just completely batshit nuts they had gone until this morning. That’s when I read this headline at Michigan Radio:
MICHIGAN GOVERNOR MAKING HIS WAY THROUGH 282 BILLS
Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has been buy working his way through the 282 bills passed by he Legislature during the final weeks of the 2012 session.The governor’s office said he signed 53 bills on Friday and vetoed four. He has acted on 186 bills and 95 are pending review.
Just to recap: Michigan Republicans ran on a smaller government, less regulation, lower taxes platform in 2010 with a little “jobsjobsjobs” thrown in for good measure. What we got is an increase in taxes on a majority of Michiganders, an absolutely astonishing number of bills passed and new regulations on everything from women’s uteri to how labor unions can conduct their businesses.
In other words, the current crop of Republicans in Michigan, including our governor, are some of the most gargantuan hypocrites ever to take office.
Let’s all just remember that for, say, the next 674 days.
