Hi, folks. I have a favor to ask.
You may recall that earlier this year, I had a run-in with a bad dude named Diverticulitis that put me in the hospital for ten days. As it turns out, I need to have surgery next month to keep that scary situation from ever happening again. Because this is happening during the time when we normally hold our annual fundraising party, we are going to postpone the party until late August when I am back on my feet.
The upshot is that the Eclectablog bank account is nearly depleted and won’t be significantly refreshed until almost September. Therefore, this quarterly fundraiser is more important than most. We need to raise enough money to keep paying our fabulous contributors until the annual party.
On July 8th, Eclectablog will have its 15-year anniversary. During that time, we have posted an astonishing 6,585 posts. Somewhere along the line I got this crazy idea to bring on other writers and — you’re going to laugh, I know — PAY THEM TO BLOG! I know that seems silly. I mean NOBODY pays bloggers, right?
Wrong.
Here at Eclectablog, we’re living up to our progressive values that say, in part, people should be fairly compensated for the work they do. And writing blog posts is no different.
We ran ads for a time but you’d probably be shocked to learn just how little funding that generates. What it DOES do is slow down the site and make your experience much less enjoyable. So now you can experience Eclectablog with no ads (some display in the Disqus comments but that can’t be avoided.) However, it requires that we come to you from time to time, hat in hand, and ask you to support YOUR values by supporting us.
Please consider making a contribution and joining the growing community of supporters here at Eclectablog. One really terrific way to support us is to make a recurring monthly donation. You can choose your monthly giving level using this form:
There are two other ways to help, as well. First, you can use the handy PayPal form at the top of the right sidebar to make a one-time donation via Paypal in the amount of your choice. Second, you can send a check (which avoids Paypal taking out a percentage of your donation) to Chris Savage, P.O. Box 32, Dexter, MI 48130. Please make the check payable to “Eclectablog”.
If you are able to help support us financially, we would be most grateful. As Mitchell Robsinson put it, every dollar and voice counts. Thank you for your support.
P.S. Google, Twitter, and Facebook have changed their algorithms significantly in the past year meaning that fewer people are seeing our content in Google searches and on the various social media platforms. You can help us out by sharing our content far and wide and it won’t cost you a thing.
