FLASHBACK: Dems offer to dial back violent rhetoric, GOP says NO!

I wrote this blog entry on Eclectablog nearly a year ago in March 2010. When you read it, consider the fact that Democrats made a concerted effort back then to rein in the use of violent metaphors and language/rhetoric. In the wake of the passage of the Affordable Care Act when emotions were high and passions were higher, the Democrats (along with many liberal commentators) recognized that the use of violent images and references could lead to someone getting hurt. And they were right.

And they were rebuffed by the Republicans.

The cost of repealing the Affordable Care Act in Michigan is HIGH

The Public Interest Research Group in Michigan (PIRGIM) has released a study that shows repealing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) would be very costly to Michigan residents.

Consumers and small businesses in Michigan will face significantly higher insurance premiums and could see costly coverage denials and price discrimination if efforts to repeal the federal health care law prevail in Congress or in the courts, according to The Cost of Repeal: Examining the Impact on Michigan of Repealing the New Federal Health Care Law, a new report released today by PIRGIM.

According to the report, in the short term, repeal would strip tax credits from 126,300 Michigan small businesses.

Tea Party Nation, methinks thou protest TOO MUCH

Only two days from the Arizona shooting that claimed six lives and injured several others and the Tea Party Nation has sent out no less than SEVEN EIGHT emails explaining why this is not their fault and how those evil, nasty librulz are hell-bent on blaming them.

In the first one, Tea Party Nation leader Judson Phillips said this (note, all links are to the Tea Party Nation website where the emails direct you, membership req’d):

At a time like this, it is terrible that we do have to think about politics, but no matter what the shooter’s motivations where, the left is going to blame this on the Tea Party Movement.…

Dems demoralized and not active? Think again.

This past weekend, Organizing for America (OFA) groups across the country held training sessions for folks interested in getting/remaining involved as we head into the new year. After a debilitating mid-term election, many folks have argued that Democrats are demoralized, unenthused and disinterested in being involved and active.

This is hardly the case.

In Michigan alone, we had four of these events on Saturday. The event I attended and helped to run was in Brighton where we had 90+ signed up and around 50 who actually attended. Sign-ups at the event in southeastern Michigan had to be cut-off at 150 and we had over hundred sign-ups at similar events in Oakland country and Flint.…

Lemon, with a twist.

Lemon lime with a twist

You may have noticed one of these photos in my EclectaPhoto D’Jour on the right sidebar. It’s the latest from my oh-so-talented wife, Anne C. Savage.

This is a complimentary image that goes with a lemony version from a few months ago.

Unlike most photos like this you see, these fruits are not splashing INTO water, they are actually rising up OUT OF water.

More of her amazing work HERE.

These photos are not for reprint. Thank you.

I’m just sayin’…

Crosshairs and 2nd Amendment remedies come home to roost

Earlier today, 20-something gunman Jared Lee Loughner shot Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in the head at point blank range

She is in critical condition but is expected to survive. Among the six dead from the shooting are a 9 year-old girl and Federal Court judge John Roll. 18 people in total were shot.

Judson Phillips of the Tea Party Nation has this to say:

At a time like this, it is terrible that we do have to think about politics, but no matter what the shooter’s motivations where, the left is going to blame this on the Tea Party Movement. Already on liberal websites, the far left is trying to accuse the Tea Party of being involved.…

Wait. Where ARE the jobs (bills)?

Just wanted to highlight something from my post earlier today where I looked at 17 of the bills submitted by the GOP in the past two days.

Six bills to repeal all or parts of the health insurance reform law.

One to repeal Wall Street reform.

One to lower the wages of minimum wage workers lucky enough to get health insurance from their employer.

Not ONE jobs bill. Not. One.

Think about that for a minute.

I’m just sayin’…

The first week in Congress – Hoo boy (list of GOP bills)

[NOTE: Edited to include the name of the sponsor of each bill.]

Here’s a snapshot of what we have to look forward to this year from the Republicans. As of this writing, just over 200 bills have been submitted in Congress. Here are some of the most odious ones.

H.R. 2 (Eric Cantor)- Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act – Repeals the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010.
H.R. 21 (Scott Garrett) – Reclaiming Individual Liberty Act – Repeals the individual mandate of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).
H.R. 38 (John Fleming) – Defunds the Health Insurance Reform Implementation Fund under the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010.…
