Take action. Take action NOW.
This past Valentines Day, I spent over $50 with Proflowers.com to buy my wife two dozen multi-colored roses. It was our tenth Valentines Day together and I wanted to do something extra special for her.
This is the last of my money that Proflowers.com will ever see until they discontinue advertising on Rush Limbaugh’s radio show. They are issuing platitudes on Twitter saying things like, “We would like to assure you that we do not endorse the views expressed by Rush Limbaugh and we appreciate your feedback” and “We understand your concerns and I will ensure that your feedback is communicated to the producers of that show”.
Until they stop advertising with Limbaugh, these are nothing more than platitudes and they can only be seen as supporting what he is saying.
This is the email I just sent to them using the CONTACT US page on their website.
I have been following the platitudes you have been tweeting to customers asking you to pull your ads from Rush Limbaugh’s radio show. Please add my comments to the pile.Rush Limbaugh has on three separate days provocatively said that American women who receive contraceptives paid for by their health insurance are sluts, whores, and prostitutes. He has suggested that they be required to film themselves having sex and put the videos on the internet so the rest of us can watch them. He said this of Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown University law student who had the temerity to disagree with Limbaugh and testify at a Congressional hearing: “She’s having so much sex it’s amazing she can still walk, but she made it up there”. He said “she wants to have repeated, never-ending, as often as she wants it sex”. He said these things about her because she supports the requirement that health insurance companies cover contraception.
By continuing to advertise with this “man”, you are implicitly supporting what he is saying. Your twitter platitudes do not change that. Unless you pull your ads, your company supports this sexist, misogynistic, anti-women hate speech with your money. The time is NOW to make a statement that actually MEANS something and to pull your ads.
I encourage you to add your voice. (You’ll need to enter a fake account number on Proflowers.com’s contact page.) You can also use this email address for Proflowers.com: wecare@customercare.proflowers.com.
So far, six advertisers have pulled their ads from the radio show of this human excrement. You can follow what others are doing HERE, HERE and HERE.
You can also leave a comment on Proflowers.com’s Facebook page HERE. Also, consider signing the ThinkProgress.org petition HERE and the Daily Kos petition HERE.
You can read Limbaugh’s own words HERE if there’s some question in your mind about whether or not this is much ado about nothing. It’s not. The time has come for Rush Limbaugh to retire.
UPDATE: Proflowers.com has “suspended” its advertising with Rush Limbaugh’s hate show.
