Senator seeks to make sure barber poles aren’t used incorrectly (and, no, I’m not kidding)

by

Thank gods someone is protecting us from errant barber poles

I actually thought this was a joke when I read it this morning:

As the historic barber pole has become an increasingly popular symbol, one lawmaker wants to make sure its use isn’t being abused.

In Michigan and other states, lawmakers want to make sure the rotating red, white and blue pole is used only at businesses where the barbers have had the proper training and put in the number of hours required to get a license. […]

The issue is important enough to state Sen. John Gleason that he has introduced legislation that makes it clear only licensed barber shops should have the right to display a barber pole.

I am SO glad that we don’t have any, like, actual problems in Michigan that need to be addressed. I guess when you’re in the minority like Gleason is, the only choice you have is to occupy yourself with legislation like this.
