Let your voice be heard
Last week, I wrote about Senate Bill 59 in my piece “Michigan Republicans move to make guns easier to get, permit concealed weapons in churches, schools, bars, & stadiums”. S.B. 59 will allow the carrying of concealed weapons in schools, churches, bars, daycares, college dorms, hospitals and stadiums. If made into law, this bill would allow those with a concealed pistol license to carry a concealed pistol in no-carry zones if they complete an additional course.
Rev. Eric A. Stone from the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Essexville, Michigan has put up a SignOn.org petition to fight this dangerous legislation. Although Governor Snyder has said he will not sign the bill if it hits his desk, his credibility on anything these days is gone. In fact, I’d go so far to say that he is completely unbelievable on ANY topic he discusses and Michigan citizens should basically assume he is lying to them whenever he talks about his intentions given his abrupt change in position on Right to Work for Less in Michigan. Therefore, Rev. Stone and those he is working with are trying to kill the bill before it even gets out of committee.
Here’s what Rev. Stone wrote to me this weekend:
Some have talked that passing S.B. 59 (after amending it) might be a compromise that’s being made behind the scenes with the gun lobby and the Governor. That’s just hearsay at this point. Those of us fighting S.B. 59 are operating under no assumptions and just want to see it defeated in committee. It is expected to be on the agenda Tuesday, December 11th.
We are closing in on 7500 signatures and I would like to see us pass 10,000 before I present them on Tuesday.
Please sign Rev. Stone’s petition HERE. It’s short and sweet:
Stop legislation that would eliminate restrictions on where people can carry a concealed handgun.A proposed bill under consideration by the Michigan State legislature would change the current law that prohibits people with concealed weapons permits to carry their hand guns in churches, bars, schools, sports arenas, etc. Please call on your state senator and representative to keep gun free zones in Michigan.
