Mark Schauer scores endorsement from AFT Michigan, new video takes Snyder to task on education

by

Today appears to be Education Day for Democrat Mark Schauer. First, he scored a coveted endorsement from the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Michigan union which represents 35,000 members across the state. According to the Schauer campaign, “AFT Michigan is endorsing Schauer for his strong record of supporting public education, and commitment to reversing Gov. Rick Snyder’s cuts to Michigan’s K-12 schools and higher education.”

AFT Michigan president David Hecker issued the following statement:

Michigan needs a Governor who understands that we need to invest in public education to compete for good jobs and build a strong economy. As the son of a teacher, Mark Schauer knows that education is the key to opportunity, and as Governor, he will make education a top priority to help our students compete for good 21st Century jobs. Our members are energized and ready to help make Mark our next Governor.

Schauer also received the endorsement of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 876 who said that “Schauer’s candidacy is an opportunity to rebuild and restore this now compromised infrastructure through a more balanced legislative process to provide Michigan citizens with the protections needed for a strong economy.”

In other education-related news, the Democratic Governors Association released a video this morning that’s part of a $1 million ad buy in Michigan. The ad, titled “The Difference”, points out the stark contrast between Mark Schauer’s lifetime support of education, students at all levels, and the educators that teach them with Governor Snyder’s cuts to education to pay for corporate tax cuts.

It’s a simple message with a lot of punch. More of this, please.
