Last week the Michigan AFL-CIO gave its endorsements to two statewide candidates and several Congressional candidates:
- Mark Schauer, Governor
- Gary Peters, U.S. Senate
- Jerry Cannon, U.S. House – CD 1
- Dan Kildee, U.S. House – CD 5
- Pam Byrnes, U.S. House – CD 7
- Sandy Levin, U.S. House – CD 9
- John Conyers, U.S. House – CD 13
Yesterday, Mark Schauer appeared before a raucous crowd of AFL-CIO members to accept their endorsement.
It’s an honor to have the support of Michigan’s working families. I am committed to building an economy that works for the middle class, not just the wealthy and the well-connected. As governor, I’ll make education a top economic priority to help our kids compete for high-wage, high skill jobs, and I’ll fight to get rid of the job-killing Snyder Retirement Tax.
In addition to the AFL-CIO, Schauer picked up the Michigan Sierra Club’s endorsement this week, as well. Sierra Club Michigan Chapter Chair David Holtz issued a statement strongly supporting Schauer’s candidacy and decrying Republican Governor Rick Snyder’s failure to protect our most precious asset:
Mark Schauer’s Michigan values mean support for policies that protect our Great Lakes system and strong, renewable energy standards that will transition us from older energy sources toward cleaner energy that is better for our families and our future. Michigan was once a leader in preserving and protecting our Great Lakes and natural resources, but Gov. Snyder has failed to embrace the Milliken-era values that protected and preserved one of our state’s strongest economic engines. He has been a huge disappointment.
