In addition to the new ad by the Democratic Governors Association that was released today, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mark Schauer has released his first ad of the campaign this morning, as well.
It’s a good one, in my opinion, that perfectly frames the choice that Michigan voters face in November.
I’m Mark Schauer, and I’m running for governor because Rick’s Snyder’s economy might work for the wealthy, but it’s not working for the rest of Michigan. With thousands of jobs on the line, I fought to rescue the auto industry, but there’s still so much to do. As governor, I’ll cut middle class taxes, reverse Governor Snyder’s education cuts, and get rid of tax breaks for companies that send our jobs overseas. Because our economy should work for everyone, not just the wealthy.
Rick Snyder would like you to believe that Michigan is roaring back. What he fails to tell you is that we still have the third highest unemployment rate in the country and countless schools and municipalities facing financial crises (what he refers to as “stress” as if they just need to relax a little bit.) Just yesterday, Gov. Snyder declared a financial emergency in yet another school district: Benton Harbor Public Schools.
These financial emergencies are made dramatically worse or in some cases actually created by the cuts to school funding and the cutting of revenue sharing that has hammed municipal budgets and forced local governments to make draconian cuts. All of this is so Republicans in Lansing, including Gov. Snyder, can say they have cut business taxes.
Now we’re all just waiting for the results of that massive tax break to trickle down onto us according to the Voodoo Economic model.
So far, it’s not working.
And Michiganders know it. That’s why Mark Schauer is tied in the last seven polls taken on the gubernatorial race.
Rick Snyder is in deep trouble and he knows it. You can count on truly nasty attack ads to hit the airwaves between now and November, bought and paid for by the wealthy corporatists and corporations that benefit most from Gov. Snyder’s policies.
What we have, and it’s something the Republicans do NOT have, is an enthused grassroots that is ready to get out the vote for our candidate. Make sure you’re part of that. Sign-up to get involved today. You can do that with the Michigan Democratic Party HERE or with the Schauer campaign HERE.
And while you’re at it, drop a little coin in Mark Schauer’s campaign till. He can use all the help he get and every little bit does help. You can do that HERE.
