Welcome to the new and improved Eclectablog 4.0!

Welcome to Eclectablog 4.0! If you’re reading this, you’ve hit the new and improved site. It’s something we’ve been working toward for quite some time and now it’s finally arrived! HUGE thanks to Anne for all her hard work on this effort.

A bit of history: We started out on Blogger (Eclectablog 1.0) then, after we got too big for our britches there, moved to the far more user-friendly WordPress platform (Eclectablog 2.0). At some point we upgraded the theme to a much more attractive one (Eclecatablog 3.0) which we’ve had for over five years.

In other words, it was time for a change.

The new site should load quicker and it’s much more mobile device-friendly.

One thing you’ll notice is the absence of advertisements. I tried an experiment a couple of weeks ago when I removed nearly every ad. Since that day we’ve gotten at least $75 in donations EACH DAY. That’s never happened before. Obviously our round-the-clock coverage of the Flint Water Crisis has driven a lot of that but I am hoping this continues and we can continue to avoid ads, at least network ads. We’ll probably run ads from our progressive partners from time to time (it helps them AND us so it’s win-win) but I think the absence of network ads will make your experience here more enjoyable.

To sustain that and allow us to continue to improve the site – we just moved to a dedicated and more expensive server, for instance – we need your continuing financial support. I hope that you’ll consider making a donation if it fits into your budget. You can use the Paypal widget below or contact me directly for my address. A direct check means we don’t have service fees taken out.

If you see any problems with the site, please drop us a line using the link at the top of the page or in the comments section below and we’ll address them as quickly as possible.

Finally, we’d love your feedback and ideas for making the site even better.

Thanks so much for your support and enjoy the new site!

– Chris, Anne, LOLGOP, Amy, Tony, Judy, John, and Sommer

P.S. Big thanks to our webmaster Charles Gaba for his assistance in this transition.

P.P.S. Here are some of our previous logos, just for fun!
