Citizen journalism: Filling the void

by

I don’t generally refer to myself as a “journalist”. However, I do consider myself a blogger who sometimes commits acts of journalism. And, in a time when news outlets often seem like they are circling the drain, the work we do here at Eclectablog is helping to fill a void that’s been created by that slow demise. Those of you who read Eclectablog regularly know that, in addition to our political commentary, we often do raise issues that aren’t being raised by traditional media sources. And that has, at times, had an actual impact on our state.

Our investigations into the Education Achievement Authority helped ensure that it was not only not expanded statewide, it’s being abandoned completely.

Our push to see Medicaid Expansion a reality in Michigan helped raise awareness and encouraged people to take action that contibuted to it actually happening.

Amy Lynn Smith’s extraordinary series on Trans Lives has raised awareness in a profound way through her consumate story telling.

For these reasons and so many more, Eclectablog has become an important component of the political world and in increasing political activism in Michigan and across the country.

We can’t continue to do that without your support.

There are two ways to help. First, you can use the handy PayPal forms at the top of the right sidebar to make a one-time donation via Paypal or to set up a monthly donation. Second, you can send a check (which avoids Paypal taking out a percentage of your donation) to Chris Savage, P.O. Box 32, Dexter, MI 48130. Please make the check payable to “Eclectablog”.

Thank you for helping us make the world a better place for everyone (except maybe the corporatists!)
