My wife Anne wrote this last year and it’s all basically still true (except that I’ve written 4,909 posts now.) I thought it was worth sharing it with you on the last day of our fundraiser as a reminder of why we do what we do. Thanks for any support you can give.
I don’t like painting ceilings.
I don’t like driving in the snow.
I don’t like ‘The Notebook’.
But mostly I don’t like asking for money.
Thankfully the top three things can mostly be avoided, but asking for money to keep Eclectablog alive and relevant, well, that can’t be avoided.
So, here I am again. Please at least hear me out.
I get paid zero for the photography and graphics I do for Eclectablog. Chris gets paid less than some of his writers yet he provides at least 75% of the content. We don’t do Eclectablog for financial gain. We never will.
Eclectablog is about Michigan, and democracy, and about those with no voice. It is a labor of love and it IS working. Eclectablog has made a difference and we will continue to.
Chris, with his full-time job and his position of Chair of the Washtenaw County Democratic Party still makes time to keep Eclectablog running, cheerfully, every single day. He cares that much. In fact, he told me yesterday that he has written 4,520 posts for Eclectablog. That is impressive dedication.
I’m not asking you to get up at 5:30 a.m. to write, read, research, pay bills, and find new ways to talk about difficult political issues. I am only asking for a little money. I don’t care if it’s $5.00 and a nice note. All of it helps.
We have been politely asking for donations all week but have only received a few on the first day. That won’t cut it.
Think about our state and all the really horrible problems we are facing. Now think about it with one less force trying like hell to make it better. We need all we can get. You know that.
Please consider donating.
Much love,
Anne
If you are able to help support us financially, we would be most grateful. There are two ways to help. First, you can use the handy PayPal forms at the top of the right sidebar to make a one-time donation via Paypal or to set up a monthly donation. Second, you can send a check (which avoids Paypal taking out a percentage of your donation) to Chris Savage, P.O. Box 32, Dexter, MI 48130. Please make the check payable to “Eclectablog”.
To sweeten the pot this time, for every donation of $75 or more, we will send you my wife Anne’s incredible photomosaic of Barack Obama titled “Out of Many, We are One“. This image, created out of the faces of people attending his rallies in 2008, appeared as a two-page spread in TIME magazine in their January 2009 Person of the Year issue and has been on the cover of magazines and books around the world:
If you want a closer look, head over HERE where you can zoom in on the individual faces.
Thank you for your continued support.
