When you’re fighting to make the world a better place, it’s good to know you’re not alone

by

When I woke up Saturday morning, it was Day Six of our 4th Quarter fundraiser here at Eclectablog and we hadn’t received a single donation. It was pretty demoralizing. We’ve had slow weeks in the past but nothing quite this slow. I generally hope to get enough in donations each quarter to pay for at least two months. Our annual fundraising party pays for the rest along with equipment and travel expenses to various events. If there’s enough left over after that, I even take a paycheck for myself. In other words, a quarter with no donations would be pretty devastating.

So, I posted a piece titled “Eclectablog is shutting down”. I wanted to give folks a sense of how they would feel if we closed up shop. It was a bit of a gamble. There was always the risk that people would shrug and say, “Meh. Easy come, easy go,” and that would be that.

That did NOT happen. Within a few hours, we had over 30 donations and raised enough money to sustain the blog through our next fundraiser in January. By the end of the day, that number reached nearly 40.

So, this post is to thank all of you who made a donation. Some of you became recurring donors which is even better! And some of you were already recurring donors or made donations unsolicited between our quarterly fundraisers. It has long been my goal to make this site a community where commenters get to know each other, we share tips and best practices, and generally create a place for people to fight together to make the world a better place. Because, let’s face it, none of us can do it on our own and when you’re fighting day in and day out to improve things, it’s really damn nice to know there are others out there fighting with you.

So: Thank you. Thank you to this community of smart, active, caring, and compassionate people. We really appreciate your support and will do everything in our power to continue to earn it.

Warmest regards on behalf of the entire team here at Eclectablog,
Chris
