The battle for the hearts and minds of Americans regarding global climate change is over. Well, according to the lead climate change denier in the Senate, James Inhofe. Pointing to what he sees as the collapse of the upcoming global summit on climate change in Copenhagen and Senate Majority Leader Reid’s postponing of action on the Kerry-Boxer climate change/green energy bill, he’s positively gloating that the deniers have prevailed.

Yes, the man that has called global climate change “greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people” is at it again. Less than one year into President Obama’s presidency and the retaking of Congress by the Democrats in a profound way, he’s already declared victory in his effort to put a fork in any legislative initiatives to combat global climate change.

Senator Inhofe: First of all, Madam Chairman, I’m sorry I’m a little late. As I told you, I was busy reading this morning’s Roll Call about our article.Senator Boxer: I haven’t seen it yet.
Inhofe: Oh, you’ll like it, you’ll like it. It’s good. And this is one of the many areas in which we agree. Boxer: Wait a minute!
Senator Inhofe might wish to recall this exchange regarding who won the election in 2008 and what the consequences are of that:
Inhofe took his chutzpah even farther. As the Business Daily Investor reports:
“I proudly declare 2009 as the ‘Year of the Skeptic,’ the year in which scientists who question the so-called global warming consensus are being heard,” Inhofe said to Boxer in a Senate speech. “Until this year, any scientist, reporter or politician who dared raise even the slightest suspicion about the science behind global warming was dismissed and repeatedly mocked.”Inhofe added: “Today I have been vindicated.”
The Ada (Oklahoma) Evening News quotes Inhofe: “So when Barbara Boxer, John Kerry and all the left get up there and say, ‘Yes. We’re going to pass a global warming bill,’ I will be able to stand up and say, ‘No, it’s over. Get a life. You lost. I won,'” Inhofe said.
I guess this is a classic case of declaring victory and leaving. Only this time, Inhofe is a bit premature, methinks. Over half of Americans believe we should join with other countries to work to reverse man-made climate change. President Obama making gains with China. And there’s a very active and fired-up grassroots contingent through groups like 1Sky and Repower America pushing hard to make sure a stong climate protection and green energy bill passes, even if we have to wait until next spring.
So be careful there, Senator Inhofe. Keep this up and you might one day soon have to eat your words.

President-elect Obama said of global warming last November. ‘Delay is no longer an option.’ It turns out that delay really is an option-the only one that has world-wide support.
The environmental lobby is blaming Copenhagen’s pre-emptive collapse on the Senate’s failure to ram through a cap-and-trade scheme like the House did in June, arguing that ‘the world’ won’t make commitments until the U.S. does. But there will always be one excuse or another, given that developing countries like China and India will never be masochistic enough to subject their economies to the West’s climate neuroses.
[W]ith Copenhagen a certain failure, it’s safe to say that cap-and-trade is dead.
Perhaps the biggest blow to any Senate climate bill came last week from 14 Senate Democrats, primarily from the Midwest, who, in a letter, challenged the allocation formula of Kerry-Boxer and Waxman-Markey. The letter was signed by Senators Al Franken, Amy Klobuchar, Mark Udall, Michael Bennet, Robert Byrd, Carl Levin, Debbie Stabenow, and Sherrod Brown.
NOTE: this is completely disingenuous (surprise!). That letter addresses matters of equity and fairness in the bill, not whether or not the bill is something that should be passed, conceptually-speaking.
Despite the millions of dollars spent by Al Gore, the Hollywood Elites, and the United Nations, climate alarmism has failed.
I will be travelling to Copenhagen, leading what I call the “Truth Squad,” to say exactly what I said six years ago in Milan, Italy: The United States will not support a global warming treaty that will significantly damage the American economy, cost American jobs, and impose the largest tax increase in American history. Further, as I stated in 2003, unless developing nations are part of the binding agreement, the US will not go along. Given the unemployment rate of 10 percent, and given all of the out of control spending in Washington, the last thing we need is another thousand-page bill that increases costs and ships jobs overseas, all with no impact on climate change. I also said in Milan that the science is not settled. That was an unpopular view back then. But now, since Al Gore’s science fiction movie, more and more scientists, reporters, and politicians are questioning global warming alarmism. I proudly declare 2009 as the “Year of the Skeptic”-the year in which scientists who question the so-called global warming consensus are being heard. Rather than continue down a road that will harm the US economy, the international community should forge a new path forward that builds on international trade, new and innovative technology, jobs, development, and economic growth.
The bottom line is that efforts to pass the largest tax increase in American history have clearly failed, handing the American people a tremendous victory.
