I’m going to say right here and now that I’m both surprised and thrilled to see Barbara Bush do this PSA for the HRC campaign of New York.
I’m Barbara Bush and I’m a New Yorker for marriage equality. New York is about fairness and equality and everyone should have the right to marry the person that the love. Join us.

Adding: I give Barbara Bush a lot of credit for doing this. She has little to gain from it but her voice can carry a not-insignificant impact. Like Meghan McCain, she represents a more sane faction of the GOP, one that has been all but silenced in the past few years by both the Tea Party ideologues and, before them, the fundamentalist Christian wing. I am one who sincerely believes we need an opposition party that is sane and has legitimacy and ideas. It’s the tension between two or more strong parties that keeps either one from becoming so entrenched that they become irreparably corrupted by their power. These two young women give me hope that the GOP may someday return to some semblance of legitimacy and sanity. Kudos to her for this.
