Well, at least the Catholic church is consistent.
A senior adviser to the Vatican, who is a theology professor in Detroit, is blasting the Catholic governor of New York for his strong backing of same-sex marriage, saying he should be punished for his “brazen” violation of Catholicism by being denied Holy Communion, a key part of the Catholic faith.Edward Peters, a professor at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, also is calling for the Catholic Church to investigate Gov. Andrew Cuomo for violating a separate church law that seeks to preserve “good morals.”

Peters was named last year by Pope Benedict XVI to be an adviser to the Vatican’s highest judicial authority, known as Apostolic Signatura.
He is not an official spokesman for the pope, but his views are heard at high levels in the church.
While the majority of Americans are celebrating the state of New York’s entry into the growing number of states allowing for same-sex marriage, the Catholic church remains centuries behind. Never mind that the new law has an exemption in it to shield religious organizations from being compelled to perform same-sex marriage ceremonies. This action shows that the Catholic church wishes to impose its world view on the entire country (okay, probably the whole world.)
In his statements, Peters went on to say punishing Cuomo would “serve as an example” for Catholic clergy on how to deal with any future Catholic leaders considering such immoral acts as allowing two people who love each other enough to commit to spending the rest of their lives together to get married.
Peters has called for Cuomo to be denied communion in the past for “public concubinage”. What’s “public concubinage”? Living with your girlfriend in Cuomo’s case.
I know this will be seen as an attack on Catholics by some. It’s not. It’s an attack on the Catholic church leaders for their attempt to impose their values on the entire country. My message to them is this: Keep your archaic “morality” to yourself. The rest of us have evolved.
