After he lost his bid for the Republican nomination for Governor in Michigan in 2010, we didn’t hear a great deal from Pete Hoekstra until, in April of this year, he sent out a press release saying he was NOT going to run for Debbie Stabenow’s Senate seat.
After serious consideration and many discussions with friends and supporters, Diane and I have made the decision that I will not be a candidate for the United States Senate in 2012. This was an extremely difficult decision for us to make as we saw strong points both for and against running. However, in our final analysis, we agreed that it was not in the best interest of our family at this time to enter the race.
This week, Pete Hoekstra will announce that he had, in fact, changed his mind.
Former U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra of Holland will run for the Republican nomination to face U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow next year, giving the party the high-profile candidate it has sought to take on the two-term Democrat, a source familiar with Hoekstra’s decision said Tuesday.Hoekstra, a nine-term Republican who stepped down to run for governor last year, did not return calls for comment on Tuesday, and his office in Washington said he was out of town. The source confirmed Hoekstra’s candidacy on condition of anonymity because it hadn’t been publicly announced.
This should give the website petehoekstra.com/ some more traffic.
You may recall that, during the run-up to the Michigan Republican primary, Ben Padnos realized the domain petehoekstra.com was available. So he snatched it up and used it to post truthful takedowns of Pete Hoekstra. He essentially put it to bed in August 2010. However, last spring, he posted an offer to sell the domain for a $10,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Holland (Michigan).
We will sell the PeteHoekstra.com domain in exchange for a $10,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Holland. Within 72 hours of receiving word that this contribution has been collected, we will transfer ownership of the domain to the Donor or an individual or organization of the Donor’s choice.
As Padnos writes in his blog entry this morning, Pete Hoekstra is too dumb to be a legislator.
Here’s what I’ll say: The PeteHoekstra.com domain name has been publicly available for sale since April, with 100% of the proceeds going to a great charity, the Boys & Girls Club of Holland. When you “Google” Pete Hoekstra, or search Yahoo!, this site appears at or near the top of the results.Before announcing his candidacy, Hoekstra could have reached out to us and made a reasonable offer (again, to a charity).
But he’s too proud, and too stubborn.
Look at the challenges facing this country. Look at what happens in Washington when stubborn, ideologues refuse to listen to the other side — and that goes for both Democrats and Republicans.
Understandably, Pete doesn’t like our efforts behind the PeteHoekstra.com website. He referred to me as “mean-spirited” back in April.
But the fact that I’m still here, blogging away @ PeteHoekstra.com tells you everything you need to know why Pete Hoekstra should not be Michigan’s next US Senator.
