Now let that be a lesson to you
The 21-year old actress that was in Pete Hoekstra’s racist campaign ad, described in his now-defunct website’s code as “Yellow Girl” (which their web team disingenously/laughingly describes as “a typo”), has apologized. Via the Angry Asian Man blog:
The 21-year-old actress just released the following statement on her Facebook page expressing regret and asking for forgiveness for her role in the ad:
“I am deeply sorry for any pain that the character I portrayed brought to my communities. As a recent college grad who has spent time working to improve communities and empower those without a voice, this role is not in any way representative of who I am. It was absolutely a mistake on my part and one that, over time, I hope can be forgiven. I feel horrible about my participation and I am determined to resolve my actions.”Lisa Chan

I know MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell was trying desperately to “out” Ms. Chan and I thought that was absurd. The woman is an actress and, like my pal Mark Maynard, I’m reluctant to come down to hard on her. Still, it’s gratifying that she recognizes what she was complicit in and I commend her for this public apology.
Perhaps something good will come of this afterall. You know, besides helping get Senator Debbie Stabenow re-elected.
