Birds of a feather
The most-reviled governor in the country, Scott Walker of Wisconsin, will be in Troy Michigan tonight to headline a Republican fundraiser. The venue is the same one where Americans for Prosperity held their forum a couple of months ago — The San Marino Club on Big Beaver Road.
As you might imagine, there will be a protest. The Michigan chapter of the National Action Network headed by Rev. Charles Willams II has teamed up with the UAW and will be joined by Occupy Detroit, other labor unions, local pastors and other groups to issue “subpoenas” to the two “Co-Conspirators.
Michigan Republicans are hosting a fundraiser at the San Marino Club in Troy featuring Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, a fellow conspirator with Governor Rick Snyder in the assault on working class families. In peaceful protest, we will deliver a subpoena calling on Walker and Snyder (pdf) to account for their shared agenda of cutting taxes on the corporate rich, shifting taxes to the 99%, slashing social services for people in need, and stripping voters and working people of their rights.Join Us! In a press release, Rev. Charles Williams II said “Rick Snyder has unsuccessfully tried to distance himself from koch brother policies: that are anti-people, anti-99 percent, and anti-labor. Tommorrow we will expose that they really are birds of the same feather that flock together”.
Bob King of the UAW is on this, as well:
United Auto Workers President Bob King is calling on union members to join him in protesting a fund-raising appearance by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker at the San Marino Club in Troy on Tuesday — the opening salvo in a nonviolent civil disobedience campaign called the “99 Percent Spring.”An outgrowth of the Occupy Wall Street movement, the group is seeking to up the ante in the fight against what it perceives as unbridled corporate greed.
Walker faces a recall election in Wisconsin because of helping pass a law that stops requiring the state government to collectively bargain with its largest public employee unions. He will be speaking at the Ronald Reagan dinner sponsored by the Michigan 9th Congressional District Committee that is expected to attract 500 attendees, said Dennis Pittman, executive director of the Oakland County Republican Party.
The dinner raises money for Oakland County Republicans in the November election.
“We have to rise up collectively and demand change in our state government and their proposed anti-worker legislation. We must demand a more inclusive society for our children and generations to come,” King declared in a statement released Monday. “There is power in our numbers, and the 99 Percent Spring movement is rooted in our history of fighting for the dignity of all workers.”
