Get on the Bus!
In March of this year, Mark Bernstein, candidate for regent of the University of Michigan, was endorsed by the Michigan Democratic Party at their 2012 Endorsement Convention. I have met and talked at length with Mark and I’m thrilled that he’s our candidate this year. He’s a solid progressive with a big heart and a strong interest in helping keep college costs down for Michigan students.
Mark’s team recently purchased a 20-year old school bus from the South Redford Public School District, painted it up with his campaign logo & graphics and set out on a statewide “Make College Affordable Tour”. Here’s a video his team put together about the process and about Mark’s tour, an Eclectablog exclusive!
So far, the tour has hit the following cities:
- Curtis (in the UP)
- New Baltimore
- East Grand Rapids
- Grand Rapids
- Saugatuck
- Milan
- Jackson
- Bridgeport
- Mt. Pleasant
- Allegan
- Belleville
- St. Ignace (UP)
Here’s Mark’s statement about why he’s running:
I am a proud, grateful product of Michigan’s public education system – from kindergarten to earning three degrees from the University of Michigan.
I believe that this path, the promise of public education, must be protected for every Michigan family. Nothing less than the future of our state hangs in the balance.I want to serve on the University of Michigan Board of Regents:
- To fight for an affordable, quality, accessible college education
- To enable the innovation and job creating force of research
- To celebrate the transformative power of ideas
- And to honor the tradition and legacy of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Flint, Dearborn and across our state
I want to serve on the University of Michigan Board of Regents to fight for the promise of public universities.
I will be an effective Regent who makes meaningful, thoughtful contributions to the mission of the University.
Mark has been endorsed by an impressive array of Michiganders including U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, many Democratic members of Congress and state representatives, and a host of others. You can see the full list HERE.
I encourage you to check out the Mark Bernstein for UofM Regent website as well as his Facebook page. You can also follow him on Twitter at @MGoBernstein.
As I said, I’ve gotten to know Mark and think he’s a terrific candidate, one that will work hard for our state’s students, helping to make sure they get the best higher education possible while keeping it affordable and accessible and exceptional for ALL students.
