What, you didn’t think we’d notice?
I received emails and phone calls this afternoon from Representatives Lisa Brown and Barb Byrum letting me know that Senate Republicans snuck in a last-minute notice that they will take up the anti-Choice H.B. 5711 tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. The hearing will take place at 10:00am in Room 110, Farnum Building, 125 W. Allegan, Lansing.
As Rep. Byrum said, they did this last minute to ensure that opponents to this bill that would severely limit Michigan women’s access to safe, affordable, legal reproductive services would have the least possible amount of time to organize people to speak out against it.
Rep. Brown posted this notice to Facebook a short time ago:
The Senate Judiciary Committee has just announced that they will be taking up House Bill 5711, the omnibus anti-choice bill that passed the House in June. By giving such short notice about this committee meeting, I’m sure they’re hoping to sneak it past concerned citizens. Don’t let this happen! Call your Senators and tell them to vote NO on this bill. If you’re able, attend the hearing and testify against this bill at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 26, Room 110, Farnum Building, 125 W. Allegan, Lansing
So far, I have not heard of any organized rally or protest. If I do, I’ll update this post so be sure to check back. However, don’t let the lack of an organized effort deter you from getting involved. If you are available tomorrow morning, get thee to Room 110 of Farnum Building and show your support. Heck, TESTIFY against this odious legislation.
