Todd Akin is a pandering liar
Congressman Todd Akin, candidate for Senate from Missouri says he is sorry. He says he’s sorry because he said “the wrong words” when he said that women who are raped rarely get pregnant because “if it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”
He’s so sorry, he released a video saying how sorry he is.
He is sorry for all of the wrong reasons. And he’s not sorry at all.
Rape is an evil act. I used the wrong words in the wrong way and for that I apologize. As the father of two daughters, I want tough justice for predators. I have a compassionate heart for the victims of sexual assault. I pray for them,” Akin says. “The fact is, rape can lead to pregnancy. The truth is, rape has many victims. The mistake I made was in the words I said, not in the heart I hold. I ask for your forgiveness.
Congressman Akin did not “use the wrong words”. He believed the wrong thing. The most twisted, perverted, nonsensical, ignorant thing. He believed that women’s bodies do, in fact, “shut down that whole thing” and don’t become impregnated.
Please, Congressman Akin, if you do not believe this WHY DID YOU SAY IT?
It’s a simple and very fair question. Why did you go on national television and tell the world that women rarely get pregnant from rape if you do not believe that is true? Answer that question.
Better yet, let me answer it for you because you are no longer credible. You said it because you DO believe it. And this video of yours is simply a pandering response to try to save your now-doomed candidacy. Major Republican leaders across the country asked you to step down. The Republican Vice Presidential candidate asked you to step down. The Republican Presidential candidate asked you to step down. The RNCC is pulling their support of your campaign. Hell, even Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS has pulled its funding.
You are changing your tune to save your ass.
But here’s the thing: if you said this and believed it, you should not be a Senator. And, if you said this and do not believe it, you are a liar and should not be a Senator.
In other words, you should not be a Senator.
