Aw, geez. That’s it? That’s all you have?
Debbie Stabenow has been a busy Senator lately. In addition to introducing and fighting for a Farm Bill that would help farmers devastated by the 2012 drought, in the past week she was at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC, at the Michigan Democratic Party’s state convention this past weekend, at a fundraiser headlined by singer/songwriter James Taylor in Farmington Hills, MI, and appeared this morning on Tony Trupiano’s First Shift radio show.
Meanwhile, her opponent Pete Hoekstra, trailing by 9% in the latest PPP poll, has been busy launching another of his pathetically lame efforts to smear her. This time, it’s a website called WorstSenator.com.
I’m not kidding.
The site encourages Stabenow-haters to upload their reasons why Senator Stabenow is “the worst Senator “. A blatant ploy to harvest email addresses, it’s just one among many absurd efforts by Hoekstra to drag his opponent into the mud with him. While his Republican pals filibustered Senator Stabenow’s efforts to end tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas, Pete Hoekstra offers no ideas of his own other than to cut taxes for the country’s wealthiest citizens. He even suggested in a speech at the Republican state convention this past weekend that she’s responsible for rising gas prices!
Hoekstra has a history of lame attempts like this. His racist and xenophobic “Debbie Spenditnow” ad that ran during the Superbowl is largely responsible for his 9-point deficit in the latest PPP poll:
PPP’s first poll of the Michigan Senate race since switching to likely voters continues to find Debbie Stabenow with a solid lead over Pete Hoekstra, 50-41. Stabenow has her party more unified around her, taking 88% of Democrats to Hoekstra’s 81% of Republicans. She’s also up 53-36 with independents. Stabenow is running almost even among white voters, trailing Hoekstra just 46-45, and when you add in her overwhelming support among non-whites you get her overall solid lead.Michigan voters … continue to have a dim view of Hoekstra with 32% rating him favorably to 39% with an unfavorable opinion. That’s about where his numbers have been ever since his controversial Super Bowl ad- he’s had a hard time bouncing back from that.
Keep it up, Pete. It’s working out so well.
For Democrats.
