How about it Republicans? Do you care for Michiganders or not?
With Republicans actively seeking to prevent the expansion of Medicaid in Michigan under the Affordable Care Act and Democrats seeking to make it happen, doctors in Michigan are ready, willing and able to take on the new influx of patients that would entail. Think about it: a savings of $1 billion over ten years, 400,000 new Michiganders covered by health insurance and doctors expanding their practices to accomodate.
Who could be against THAT? Only conservative ideologues, that’s who.
From reporting by Michigan Radio:
Most Michigan doctors say they are prepared to take on a wave of new patients — if the state approves an expansion of its Medicaid program.Under the Affordable Care Act, nearly 300,000 more people could be added to the state’s Medicaid rolls next year.
Marianne Udow-Phillips of the Center for Healthcare Research & Transformation says the nonprofit group surveyed 1,500 Michigan physicians.
“Overall, 81% of primary care physicians say they’re going to expand their practices to take new patients come 2014,” Udow-Phillips says.
The CHRT study says 55 percent of primary care physicians in Michigan say they currently accept new Medicaid patients. Among those who don’t currently take new Medicaid patients, most physicians said they would also take newly enrolled Medicaid patients.
This is a win-win-win situation for Michigan, both for our working poor and for the middle class that foot the bill for the uninsured.
The only question remaining is whether or not Republicans see harming President Obama and the Democrats as more attractive than saving Michigan lives and Michigan taxes.
Please sign our petition asking Governor Snyder to move ahead with Medicaid expansion in our state.
Thank you.
