People have questions. We’ve got answers. The first in a series of posts with need-to-know info.
Here at Eclectablog, we’ve been spreading the word about the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, since day one. We’ve been dispelling myths, telling the truth and providing insight into the political games that could have a direct impact on people’s lives.
Because no matter what the opponents say, the best way to make sure Obamacare is as successful as possible is to take advantage of all the benefits it has to offer. I know I sure will be.
For example, here’s one post I wrote nearly two months ago that has some good facts that still hold true (although bear in mind adjustments are being made as implementation ramps up).
We’ll continue to do deep dives like that, because people need to know the difference between fact and fiction. That’s why, starting today, I’ll be running some short posts that offer up a quick fact about Obamacare to help answer questions and guide folks who want to use the marketplaces opening October 1 through the process.
Where can I find out more about buying my own health insurance coverage?
Some states are creating their own health insurance marketplaces. Others, including Michigan, are using the federal exchange. Either way, the best place to start is HealthCare.gov. Wherever you live, the site will tell you what your available options are. Some pricing won’t be posted until October 1, but the site is already chock-full of great information that can answer many questions you may have about the law, how it protects you, and how it can help you find affordable insurance. You can also sign up for email updates.
Hit up the site’s section labeled “How do I get help enrolling in the Marketplace?” There you’ll find details on enrolling online or by phone, and getting questions answered via live chat. Rather talk to someone in person? The site can help you find a local center near you where you can meet with a trained navigator who can guide you through the process.
This is just the beginning. I’ll be posting more facts over the coming days and weeks. If you have a specific question, leave it in the comments below and I’ll answer it or point you in the right direction.
In the meantime, here are some other great sources of information:
- The non-partisan Kaiser Family Foundation’s website has a great section on health reform.
- Another excellent resource is Families USA. Their website drills down into a variety of specific areas.
- Enroll America also has lots of helpful info. You can sign for email updates, too.
