Run, Tony, run!
Early last month, I broke the news that radio show host Tony Trupiano was considering leaving the radio and running for the State House Representative in the 13th House District. It is now confirmed: Tony WILL be running for this strongly Democratic seat and will announce his candidacy on Monday Allen Park Civic Arena at 7:00 p.m.

Trupiano ran for Congress in 2006 against the now disgraced former Congressman Thad McCotter and although he did not win this race it whetted his appetite to become more involved in the political process where he has become a go-to voice for working families. He has been labeled “The Voice of Labor” for many years and is a proud member of the (United Food and Commercial Food Workers (UFCW) Local 876, where he was recently appointed their Legislative Director.
Scheduled to appear with Trupiano Monday evening is State Representative Andrew Kandrevas (D-Southgate), State Representative Harvey Santana (D- Detroit) and State Representative David Knezek (D-Dearborn Heights).
“On Thursday evening, Governor Snyder’s State of the State address was nothing if not filled with false optimism.” Said Trupiano “The Governor needs to come out from behind the gated community he lives in, only to be carted around by the State police, to further hiding in his Lansing office and witness the decay of our schools and communities at his hands and that of the Republican Legislature”
“I am running for this seat because for many years I have empowered my audience to do more; to seek better opportunities for themselves and their friends and families.’ Trupiano added, “It was past time for me to do more than just preach to the choir and run myself.”
Kandrevas is term limited but has been a powerful Progressive voice for the District and Trupiano wants to continue the work that Andrew started almost six years ago.
Tony Trupiano is married to his wife Anne and has three adult children that they have raised in the District. They have lived in Dearborn Heights for 19 years and when their children were younger were active in sports and many activities both in the community and in the Crestwood School District.
Over the next week Trupiano will be rolling out his platform for the 2014 election and will start meeting with voters in the District to get their input and feedback to what they want to see done and how he can carry their message to Lansing.

Tony’s progressive voice will be missed on the radio and internet. However, his ability to work for solid progressive change in the State House will more than make up for this loss and I’m thrilled that he is running.
