Bad news for Rick Snyder: 69% of Michiganders think his administration is NOT spending enough on schools

by

Spin all you want, Governor. Voters KNOW.

Rick Snyder and the Michigan Republicans want you to believe that they have done more to help fund education than any ever before in our state. By comparing what they are spending to what the state spent when we were receiving funds from the Stimulus program that offset prior spending, they show you charts and graphs “proving” they have increased per-pupil spending. It’s a shell game that anyone who has any contact with a school district knows is simply untrue. School districts across the state are struggling every single day — just ask your local school board — and our residents know that.

A recent poll by the Glengariff Group proves it:

Poll results released Monday show 75 percent of likely Michigan voters support a proposal for funding schools that advocates say would put more money in the classroom and give local school leaders more flexibility in determining how to spend their state aid. […]

69 percent said Michigan needs to spend more money on schools, while 19 percent said Michigan spends the right amount of money and 6.8 percent said the state spends too much money.

“Voters pretty clearly are saying funding is an issue in their schools,” said Richard Czuba, president of the Glengariff Group, said during a media call Monday.

The Snyder administration and Michigan Republicans can spin the numbers however they want. The fact remains that Michigan voters don’t think they are doing right by our kids. With Mark Schauer making education his top issue and his top priority, that makes this news very BAD news for Rick Snyder.
