This afternoon, the United Auto Workers formally endorsed Mark Schauer for Governor of Michigan.
UAW President Bob King:
Our members and their families are proud to stand with Mark Schauer because he supported loans to help the auto companies and their suppliers retool and develop new technologies to build the cars of the future in Michigan. Mark Schauer supports quality public education, unlike Rick Snyder, who cut school funding and taxed seniors so that he could give tax cuts to corporations, even if they ship jobs overseas.

Schauer himself released this statement:
Mark Schauer said in a statement, “When some folks in Washington wanted to turn their backs on GM and Chrysler, I rolled up my sleeves and got to work to help save Michigan auto jobs. I’ll always fight for our auto industry, because we build the best cars and trucks in the world right here in Michigan.
Schauer’s position is in stark contrast to that of Rick Snyder who brushed off Mitt Romney’s “Let Detroit go bankrupt” approach to the near-collapse of our domestic vehicle manufacturing sector under George W. Bush as “overblown”. He arrived at today’s announcement near the Flint Truck Assembly in his Saturn Outlook, purchased from the Lansing Delta Township Assembly in 2009, the same week General Motors filed for bankruptcy protection.
More from Schauer:
Rick Snyder is out of touch, and hasn’t done anything to help Michigan’s auto industry. As governor, I’ll fight to end unfair trade deals to help our auto companies compete on a level playing field. And I’ll work to build a strong middle class by investing in education and repealing the job-killing Snyder Retirement Tax.
