Transference much, Tim?
Tim Walberg, Congressman for Michigan’s 7th District, doesn’t think much of Americans. I mean he REALLY doesn’t think much of Americans. In fact, according to Walberg, we’re all just a bunch of slaves.
Here’s what he said at a Family Research Council conservative pastor’s conference called “Watchmen at the Wall” in May:
And so in [the Biblical Book of] Nehemiah, the 9th chapter, verse 36, there are recorded these chilling words from the Levites when it says, “Behold, we are slaves today, and as to the land that you gave to our fathers to eat of its fruit and its bounty, behold we are slaves in it.”Powerful, tragic, REAL words. Does that bring to mind any other great nation in your frame of reference?

Just to jog your thoughts about that possible other nation that this could be a reference to: Slaves to materialism. Slaves to violence. Slaves to pornography. Slaves to debt. Slaves to sexual perversion. Slaves to gluttony. Slaves to drugs and drunkenness. Slaves to pleasure. Slaves to recreation. Slaves to sports. Slaves to selfishness. Slaves to laziness. Slaves to humanism. Slaves to government.
Behold, we are slaves today, and as to the land that you gave to our fathers to eat of its fruit and its bounty, behold we – AMERICANS – are slaves in it.
Speak for yourself, Tim. Sheesh. You have issues.
Adding… Walberg has been added to Bill Maher’s “Flip a District” list, joining two other Michigan Republicans Dan Benishek and Kerry Bentivolio.
UPDATE: With regards to Walberg’s claim that Americans are addicted to “selfishness”, his Democratic opponent for Congress in the 7th District Pam Byrnes released this statement:
The real problem in this country with selfishness isn’t with the people, it’s with self-serving politicians like Congressman Tim Walberg, who voted to shut down the government and keep drawing his $174,000 a year paycheck, and if Congressman Walberg can’t see that, he’s spent far too much time in Washington. There’s a clear difference in this race between my votes to cut legislative perks, and Congressman Tim Walberg, who took his paycheck even after voting against reopening government and has defended perks like a taxpayer-funded gym, and first class airfare for members of Congress.
It’s also worth noting that Walberg is a double-dipper who collects a pension from his time in the Michigan legislature in addition to his current federal salary and benefits:
Tim Walberg, as it turns out, gets a pension check from the state of Michigan for $5,109.11 each month. That’s $61,309.32 a year, paid for by the tax payers of Michigan. Keep in mind, that’s in addition to his annual Congressional salary of $174,000.It’s a pretty sweet gig when you think about it. Nearly a quarter million dollars in payments a year, all paid for by tax dollars. […]
Tim Walberg hasn’t held a private sector job for over 30 years. Except for a two-year stint when Mark Schauer was the Representative from MI-07, Walberg has been either a state legislator, a member of the U.S. Congress, or unemployed and living off his pension. In fact, he’s been getting free healthcare and either a paycheck or a tasty pension from the taxpayers of Michigan since 1983.
So, yeah, Tim Walberg certainly knows a thing or two regarding an American addiction to selfishness.
