A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about Republican Brandt Iden who is running for office in Michigan’s 61st House district and who lied on a candidate questionnaire about having been convicted of a crime.
Today another GOP liar has been busted. This time it’s Republican state Rep. Kevin Cotter who is running for reelection in Michigan’s 99th state House District and who lied on his questionnaire:
Fourteen years ago, a then 22-year-old Kevin Cotter was pulled over by a police officer and issued a ticket for transporting open intoxicants in a vehicle, a misdemeanor.Cotter pleaded guilty and paid total fine and court costs of $255. […]
“Cotter should stop running from his record and come clean to families in his district,” said Joshua Pugh, communications director for the Michigan Democratic Party. “Mid-Michigan families can’t afford four more years of Cotter’s wrong priorities.”
Cotter admits he was caught driving with an open container of alcohol in his vehicle 14 years ago. The state lawmaker said he does not believe the offense, categorized as a misdemeanor in state law, would be considered a “crime” for the purposes of the questionnaire.
The last statement is an interesting one since in this same article, Cotter boasts that he “owned up to this very situation four years ago.”
Guess he thought the definition of “convicted of a crime” had changed in four years.
These guys…
