I’ve never fully understood the loathing that the GOP feels for Obamacare. After all, it was essentially their idea to begin with and it was proven to work by their very own presidential candidate in 2012, Mitt Romney, when he implemented it in Massachusetts.
But now I have figured it out. I realized the true answer after I saw this image on Facebook:
Yes, that’s right. The Michigan GOP thinks that other people enroll you in Obamacare. They are too incredibly stupid, even after several years of talking about it, to realize this is something that Americans choose to do for themselves.
But that, apparently, isn’t what they believe:
Democrat Mark Schauer does not enroll his own campaign staff in Obamacare, yet he forced hundreds of thousands of Michiganders to accept Obamacare. […]“Mark Schauer failed to enroll his campaign staff in Obamacare even though he was eligible to do so,” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Bobby Schostak.
I really should have come to this conclusion a long time ago, especially with the Michigan GOP. Bobby Schostak is so incredibly incompetent that Gov. Snyder had to fly back to Michigan to save his ass when he nearly lost his chair position to a tea partier nobody has ever heard of. His recent ads are making him the laughing stock of the country with Dave Weigel at Bloomberg calling his latest “Sharknado” ad “The Worst Campaign Ad That Human Beings Actually Paid for This Year”.
If they weren’t being used as pawns by wealthy corporatists who fund them until their blood turns green, they wouldn’t stand a chance at winning elections.
The reality is, of course, that the Republican leadership isn’t that stupid (except, possibly for Bobby Schostak.) It’s that they are convinced their supporters are. It’s nothing more craven pandering the most ignorant people in our state.
Oh, and one more thing: the reason staffers on the Schauer campaign aren’t enrolled in Obamacare is because Mark Schauer pays for their healthcare insurance. So there’s that.
