This morning, Gretchen Driskell, State House Representative from the 52nd District and former mayor of Saline announced that she will run for the 7th District Congressional seat to oust tea partier Tim Walberg. During her time in office Driskell has been a fierce advocate for working families, education, the environment, and small businesses. She was the first female mayor in Saline and is now in her second term as a State Representative.
This early announcement will give Driskell, a tireless campaigner, time to introduce herself to the seven counties that comprise the 7th Congressional District – Monroe, Lenawee, Hillsdale, Branch, Jackson and Eaton Counties, as well as western Washtenaw County where she is based. This is crucial because Tim Walberg enjoys both the benefits of incumbency as well as the fact that, according to The Hill, the 7th District is one of the top districts where the incumbent was helped by gerrymandering in 2010.
