“Of course, the whole point of a Doomsday machine is lost if you keep it a secret! Why didn’t you tell the world?” – Dr. Stranglove
This morning, after Michigan House Democrats successfully negotiated with Republicans to urge Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette to open an investigation into the Gamrat/Courser/Cotter scandal, Schuette issued a statement through his spokesperson saying, “We previously have opened an investigation of the Courser-Gamrat matter. Additionally, the Attorney General has discussed this issue with Col. Kriste Etue of the Michigan State Police. We will work with the MSP and conduct a joint investigation, which will be complete and thorough, without fear or favor”.
Well isn’t that special? Couldn’t have much of the drama of yesterday been avoided if Schuette had bothered to mention this investigation to someone? Why the secrecy? Why let the 14+ hour drama unfold and, according to my sources, refuse to agree to an investigation when called by Republican House Speaker Kevin Cotter?
Then there’s this:
Asked when the investigation had been opened, the Attorney General’s office had no further comment.
Sorry, dude. I’m not buying it. So far as I or anyone else can tell, you’re being forced into doing this because the legislators of our state made sure the pressure would be on you and you’re covering your tracks.
Thankfully we don’t have to rely only on Schuette’s office. The Michigan State Police have agreed to open an investigation of their own.
