Happy birthday to Amy Lynn Smith (@alswrite), Eclectablogger extraordinaire!

Party like it’s 1999 and you’re back in high school

I just wanted to take a moment to make sure that everyone wishes our amazing Eclectablogger Amy Lynn Smith (aka @alswrite) a very happy birthday today.

Since she came on board last spring, Amy’s been killing it on health care-related issues and so much more. We’re thrilled to have her part of the team.

This one is for you, Amy. Happy birthday!

Attention: email subscribers to Eclectablog alerts, especially those on Comcast

Harumph So, I have just received word from a friend who subscribes to email alerts from Eclectablog that Comcast has been marking email notifications for new posts as “spam” and automatically filtering them so that users never see the alerts. Here’s what he found out when he contacted Comcast: Comcast indicated that there was a spam marker (which was now […]

Meta, meta, meta… I just wanted give folks a bit of an update on what’s been happening on the blog lately. First of all, thanks so much to everyone who contributed during our Third Quarter Fundraiser. We had folks contributing via PayPal, by check, and by purchasing a TinyPass. Your donations help pay for the website hosting and upkeep along […]

Last day – Third Quarter fundraiser – We’re all in this together

Last day – Third Quarter fundraiser – We’re all in this together

Over the past six months, the pervasive power of corporatists in our society has really hit home for me. Corporate interests have so much money, so many resources, and have created such an effective network to put their personal, self-serving, profit-maximizing stamp on our policies and laws that the rest of us seem, at times, to have little if any […]

Day 6 – Third Quarter fundraiser – Don’t let Eclectablog go bankrupt

If you saw Chris Savage announce that Detroit would be the sight of the next Netroots Nation, you know that he’s what we used to call a “rock star.” He doesn’t just perform well under pressure but he lives the life. Since he’s a grassroots political rock star, that generally doesn’t involve all-nighters on his tour bus that don’t end […]

Day 5 – Third Quarter fundraiser – Money, money, money

This hurts me more than it hurts you… I’ll admit it: I HATE begging my readers for money. I live a pretty simple lifestyle with no expensive boats or vacation homes. We don’t travel much outside of work because we can’t afford it. But I do work hard. And so do the other contributors at Eclectablog. We’re trying to build […]

Day 4 — Third Quarter Fundraiser — Giving the people a platform

Day 4 — Third Quarter Fundraiser — Giving the people a platform

Why support Eclectablog? We do more than report stories others ignore. We help the voice of the people be heard. Citizen journalism is vital to our democracy not just because it’s unconstrained by corporate or special interests. Citizen journalism is by the people, for the people. When I joined Team Eclectablog, I was already speaking out on issues I care […]

Day 3 – Third Quarter Fundraiser – Looking back at what we’ve accomplished

It’s been a busy quarter! Hi, folks. We’re back again, asking for your support. I thought it might be useful to look back at some of what we brought to you since our last fundraiser in April. Here are some of the highlights: An interview with Michigan Teacher of the Year Gary Abud about being exploited by corporatist, anti-teacher groups […]

Day 2 – Third Quarter Fundraiser – You support us, we educate you

Support citizen journalism or democracy dies Have you ever read anything on this site that made you go, “Why didn’t I think of it that way?” or “Why am I not reading about this anywhere else?” or “I didn’t know that!” I hear from people all of the time that tell me that Eclectablog is literally their primary source for […]
