THIS is what love looks like.

THIS is what love looks like.

I’m verklempt This is one of the most beautiful expressions of love I have ever seen. After 5 years together, what better way to tell our story than to have it told by some of those who played a large role in it. I secretly recorded Mike’s reaction while he watched the video, which I presented to him as part […]

Support a Michigan-born activist for a DFA scholarship. It costs you nothing but 2 minutes of your time.

Bonnie Duncan deserves your support

Last week, Alex Showerman from Democracy for America did a guest post about DFA’s scholarship program to the Netroots Nation conference every year.

Many esteemed activists have received scholarships over the years and I typically promote the candidacy of one or two of them. This year I’m asking you to give one of your votes to Bonnie Duncan, a former Michigander now living in Vermont and running a health food store. Why? Click through to find out.

Tsarnaev “9/11 Citizen” Anti-Immigrant Angle Debunked

Tsarnaev “9/11 Citizen” Anti-Immigrant Angle Debunked

Yup, regular as clockwork, there are already FB memes going around about Boston Marathon massacre bombing suspect Dzhokar Tsarnaev becoming a U.S. citizen on 9/11 last year, as if this somehow “proves” a damned thing about immigration policy. Plus, of course, “Muslim” blah blah blah. Of course, the reality is that there are plenty of home-grown pieces of crap of […]

(UPDATED) VIDEO: Fox News affiliate in Connecticut decides nothing demonstrates the importance of women in society better than boobs

Holy father of Goddess, two facepalms in one day???

Honestly, I’m speechless. It’s rare, I know. But this has stolen my voice.

Probably because I swore off profanity on this blog two years ago.

I don’t even know what category or tags to put on this post.

Watch it and cringe (video after the jump.)

Governor Rick Snyder has vetoed guns-in-schools-and-churches bill in wake of Sandy Hook shootings

Governor Rick Snyder has vetoed guns-in-schools-and-churches bill in wake of Sandy Hook shootings

It shouldn’t have taken this long

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder has vetoed S.B. 59, the Republican bill that would have allowed for the carrying of concealed weapons in public places like schools, day care centers, sports arenas, bars, places of worship, hospitals, dorms and casinos. I have written before about what a tragically terrible this bill is and, actually, it’s better now than it was before it was amended. It never should have passed out of the legislature in the first place but, once it did, Governor Snyder should have announced his veto immediately.

More after the jump.

Governor Rick Snyder has signed the legislation that makes Michigan the 24th Right to Work state

It is done. At a press conference moments ago, Governor Rick Snyder announced that he has already signed the two bills that make Michigan a Right to Work for Less state. There was a bill for both the private sector and public employees’ unions. Snyder blamed labor for forcing this on him with the Proposal 2 ballot initiative. No mention […]

There is no “later”

There is no “later”

Wait. You’re still waiting? Maybe you’ve been putting off getting involved in the 2012 election and the Get Out the Vote (GOTV) effort until “later”. “I’ll wait until after Labor Day.” “I’ll wait until it’s a little closer to Election Day.” “I’ll wait until later.” Well, the time for waiting is over. This is it, folks. There is no “later”. […]

Can’t leave the house to Get out the Vote (GOTV)? Do it from home with Democracy for America!

Can’t leave the house to Get out the Vote (GOTV)? Do it from home with Democracy for America!

GOTV in your jammies!

I’m going to say right off the bat that I am, in general, against phonebanking from home. People that phonebank with others are more productive. It creates a sense of accountability AND a sense of camaraderie that you simply can’t get doing it alone.

That said, not everyone can get out of the house to phone bank or knock doors even though they want to help. Well, thanks to Democracy for America, you CAN help, even if you can’t leave the house. They are making calls around the country to support the various progressive Democratic candidates that they have endorsed and need help getting out the vote for these fine candidates.

Details about how you can get involved after the jump.

On Thursday morning, I posted a 4-minute long online ad paid for by the campaign to elect Bridget Mary McCormack to the state Supreme Court. In fact, Eclectablog was one of the first to get it and have it available. Since then, the West Wing reunion spot has gone crazy viral.
