Michigan Dems choose to support repeal of Emergency Mgr law but not renewable energy ballot proposal

Michigan Dems choose to support repeal of Emergency Mgr law but not renewable energy ballot proposal

Hmmm…

UPDATED: I was unaware that a “No” vote on the repeal of Public Act 4 means that the law will NOT go back into effect. “No” is the desirable vote. I have edited accordingly. My apology for the error.

In what will be a huge disappointment to many progressives across Michigan, Democrats chose not to support a key ballot initiative at their convention this weekend. They will not be supporting the initiative to require 25% of our energy to be from renewable sources by 2025 (Proposal 3) but will be supporting the repeal of Public Act 4.

Details after the jump.

Convention Mania – Michigan Democrats are fired up and ready to GO!

Convention Mania – Michigan Democrats are fired up and ready to GO!

I’ll just sleep in mid-November…

Anne and I arrived home from the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC at about 11:30 p.m. Friday night. The next morning I was on the road at 6:30 a.m. to the Michigan Democratic Party’s State Convention which took place over two days this weekend at the Lansing Center in Lansing. Like me, there were a LOT of faded looking people there but, despite their weariness, Day One of the convention was a huge success; well-attended and with high energy.

Details with photos after the jump.

It’s Never Been Easier To Register, Which Is Why Republicans Have To Make It Harder To Vote

If you have to stop your fellow citizens from voting to win, your ideas suck. All you gotta do is go to GottaRegister.com, fill out some form fields and click submit. That’s it. Any citizen with access to the Internet can do this in minutes. And this is what freaks Republicans out. Republican Senator Lindsay Graham recently said Republicans don’t […]

Reflections on the last night of the Democratic National Convention 2012 #DNC2012

Sleep? What’s that?

Wow! Did you SEE that last night? I don’t have much of a sense of how the National Democratic Convention came across to the people of the USA but I can say that, without any reservation whatsoever, the people in the arena were positively ecstatic.

Photos and reflections after the jump (along with video of Jennifer Granholm’s barnburner speech.)

Convention report: Day 1 – Watch the livestream here

The Eclectateam has landed

Anne and I have arrived at the Charlotte Convention Center and are attending an Obama campaign blogger briefing and we now have tonight’s schedule. Charlotte is a riot of activity and excitement. In addition to me being a delegate, Anne and I have DNC media credentials and have also gotten credentials to The PPL, a netroots-focused space. More information on that HERE.

In order to get our media credentials, we had to wait in line, get pre-credentials, wait in line again and the go through security then wait in line again and THEN we got our credentials.

My lanyard collection is getting silly:

If you’d like to watch to convention this evening online, you can do so after the jump and see highlights of this evening’s schedule, as well.

The People Built This

The People Built This

When the GOP says ‘we,’ you know they mean ‘me, me, me’ One of the reasons it’s so easy to forgive the Founders who embraced the prejudice of their time and even wrote it into our founding documents is because of how the first line of the Constitution begins: We the People… In a time when only white males who […]
