UPDATED: State Rep. candidate Cody Bailey joins the ranks of “Fake Democrat”

Dude, you are NO Democrat

In my piece last week about fake Democrats, non-Democrats running as Democrats in Michigan, I declined to characterize Cody Bailey as a fake Democrat. However, the more I have dug into his campaign in Michigan’s 11th State House District, the more I have become convinced that he is, indeed, a solid Republican, running as a Democrat in the 11th District simply because a Democrat is more likely to win. In my opinion, the clear choice for progressives in that district is his opponent David Knezek.

My justification for this change after the jump.

Nike wins gold with its Find Your Greatness “Jogger” and “Baseball” ads

Well-played, Nike. Well-played.

I’m not a big television ad fan and I’m even less a Nike fan. But they have a series of commercials on television during the Olympic games that I positively love.

The first one I saw is called “Find Your Greatness. — Jogger” and the second one is “Find Your Greatness. — Baseball”. See them both after the jump.

Yes, Mitt Wants You to Pay for Tax Breaks for Billionaires

Tea party rock star senator Marco Rubio rose to the floor of the Senate this week to speak on behalf of excluding Olympic athletes from paying taxes on the bonuses they win when they medal in their events. “Athletes representing our nation overseas in the Olympics shouldn’t have to worry about an extra tax bill waiting for them back home.” […]

Progress Michigan & We Are The People Michigan file FOIA request for more details in Bolger/Schmidt investigation

Progress Michigan & We Are The People Michigan file FOIA request for more details in Bolger/Schmidt investigation

Let’s take a closer look at this, shall we?

By now, most Michiganders know about the revelation that Michigan House Speaker Jase Bolger engaged in monumental election fraud. Although the Republicans are hoping beyond hope that the voters in this state will forget all about the fraud and that the issue will die before they return to work in mid-August, many of us are determined to ensure that this decidedly does NOT happen. An assortment of outlets including Eclectablog and Tony Trupiano of the First Shift with Tony Trupiano radio show are keeping the issue very much alive.

Joining that effort is Progress Michigan and We Are The People Michigan. This week, they filed a Freedom of Information Act request for more information on the investigation of Bolger and Rep. Roy Schmidt conducted by the Michigan State Police.

UPDATED: FIVE fake Democrats Michiganders should watch out for in the primary next Tuesday

UPDATED: FIVE fake Democrats Michiganders should watch out for in the primary next Tuesday

Dude, you ain’t no Democrat

I have updated this post to include more information about Cody Bailey. I hemmed and hawed over whether or not to include him in the “fake Dems” category. In the end, I did not. I have, however, included additional information about why he MAY be, why I think so, and why he’s a bad choice for Michigan.

There are two FOUR FIVE people running for office who Democrats should watch out for when they vote in the primary next Tuesday. One of them, Bill Roberts, is a LarouchePAC candidate who wants to impeach President Obama. Another is Jim Fink, running for circuit court judge in Washtenaw county on the nonpartisan ballot but who has been attempting to cuddle up to Democrats for months now. Husband and wife Susie and John Hughes from Muskegon are numbers three and four and Mike Eller, a John Bircher from Ypsilanti is the fifth.

All the gory details after the jump.

The International Tour of Shame & Embarrassment concludes. Welcome back, Mitt!

“A gold medal gaffe…”

I don’t know about you, but the “Kiss my ass, show some respect” line from the Romney campaign in Poland this week was the clear gold medal winner on Mitt Romney’s International Tour of Shame & Embarrassment™.

The DNC has put together a nice collection of headlines and news clips from the Tour™. It’s … well, it’s just plain awesome sauce with a side order of HA!

By His Own Standard, Mitt Romney Refuses to Prove He’s Qualified to Be President

Honor thy father, Mitt We’ve gotten used to Mitt Romney saying inscrutable things that leave you wondering what operating system he runs and when it was last updated. But he recently served up a bizarre defense of his extreme tax avoidance strategies: I don’t pay more than are legally due and frankly if I had paid more than are legally […]

New Eclectablog Comment Policy

Geez, it had to come to this?

After my post about Trevor Thomas was trolled most of the day today by a staffer for his opponent, Steve Pestka, I revealed the identity of this person and they then threatened to sue me. I have since removed their comments (and mine revealing their identity) and banned them.

This was the final push I needed to create a Comment Policy which you can find after the jump. I have also created a very obvious link to it at the top of every page.

Democratic Party set to place marriage equality for LGBT couples in the party platform

Welcome to the real world

It’s a big day for LGBT rights in America today. First, a new Pew poll shows that a plurality of Americans support the rights of same-sex couples to marry. Then, on the same day, we learn that the Democratic Party are set to place support for same-sex marriage in the party’s 2012 platform.

Lots to cheer about after the jump.
